slowly but surely

i’m making my way towards getting my art in the public eye. today i went to this coffee shop that’s around the corner from where i live to see if i can get some of my work displayed there. i saw an ad posted by the cafe owner on this local message board looking for local artists. i went by there to check out the place and it’s pretty nice; very chill vibe, cool brown colors and sleek chair and a nice flat-screen tv and nice music. there weren’t any people in their save for the barista and a Croatian dude that told me about his bird collection (he breeds exotic birds) and then paid for my iced tea. it was really cool and the barista told me that the place fills up in the afternoons and evenings. she also added that they would also be getting a liquor license soon which means there will be lots of drunk people who will buy art. we’ll see. i’m not worried about selling the originals; i’m not ready to sell them yet but i can get my name out there. i’ll sell prints (i found a place that does prints of originals) and then when i’ve exhausted that, i’ll sell the originals. i’ll also be printing business cards, too so i can hand my stuff out. it’s all so exciting!

i will keep you posted!

  1. Sounds great! It’s exhilarating when you are making progress towards your dream isn’t it?

    Good luck with everything.

  2. It does, it does (sound great)!! :D Just go for it! You have nothing at all to lose!! I was just talking to one of my friends just this morning, not about you, but about one of her friends that is starting film school in the fall. She went to some graduate program elsewhere doing something that she doesn’t enjoy terribly much, but she is using the previous degree to finance her real dream, which is to be a screenwriter! She would work at her job, and carve out minutes here and there to write. She now has finished a screenplay and it has been accepted AND funded by some REAL people! (like noted actors are backing it, and are going to star in her story!!). Anyway, I won’t reitterate the take home message to this story, because I think it’s clear.

  3. Woo-hoo! A BIG step in the right direction. Exciting it is! Good luck!

  4. How exciting! The doors of direction are opening as your explore options! Sounds like a great place and low pressure. The liquor license will bring in more people and everyone is more open to everything with a buzz!

What kind of birds did the guy raise? I would be fascinated by that. I’m always fascinated with people who raise animals and exotic birds sound very interesting.
